Also, although it has the number of the songs as earlier versions, the songs themselves are slightly changed. Instead of being in alphabetical order like most Christmas books, they are divided into categories, so you either have to look them up in the index or memorize what group they belong to. Buyers should be aware of two other things. The songs are mostly decent versions, but it wasn't what I was hoping for. Instead, it has only 23 of the most common songs and they come up mislabeled on media player, making me wonder if Reader's Digest copied over other CDs.
However, I thought that the CD would let me hear how all the unfamiliar songs should sound. As with earlier versions it has large, dark print that is easy to read, nice "behind the song" stories, a handy lyrics handbook, and a high-quality spiral binding that lies pages turn smoothly and lie flat. It's nice to have ways to play the same song different ways. Granted it gives different guitar chords and piano notes than other versions of the same song. Another good songbook that I found is "Most Popular Christmas Songs & Carols" (Warner Bros.) has some newer selections and might be helpful. Probably because of space limitations, some selections do not have all of the verses that I have discovered in other sources. Some very popular selections are missing: "White Christmas", "(There's no Place Like) Home for the Holidays", but those are so familiar and easy to sing I probably shouldn't count them.
Some selections are in a key unfamiliar to my accompanist, and me but then I don't really have that great of a singing range.
